Dear friends from Press,
I extend my sincere greetings on the auspicious occasion of National Press Day being celebrated throughout the country under the auspices of Press Council of India.
Let us dedicate this day to analyze the role of media in a democracy by serving as an agency for the people to access information and help strengthening and supporting the democratic process. At the same time ensuring that its time honoured universal principles of verification and right to fair opportunity to all are not lost sight of.
As a committed friend of the press, I am happy that despite various hurdles the media fraternity in Arunachal Pradesh has never ceased to grow. I would reiterate my request that media be the eyes and ears of the government and mirror the grievances of the people without any fear and favour. I would like to appeal to my press friends to adhere to the fundamental objectives of journalism to eschew publication of inaccurate, baseless, graceless, misleading or distorted material, avoid conjecture, speculation or comment as a statement of fact to prevent avoidable misgivings in the minds of the people.
My best wishes for the National Press Day.
