Speech on Independence Day

My dear brothers and sisters,

On the sacred and auspicious occasion of 68th Independence Day, I extend my heartiest greetings and good wishes to my fellow citizens. I also take this opportunity to pay my homage to thousands of martyrs, who sacrificed their lives to let us to live as free and proud citizens of this great country.

I express my gratitude to each and every citizen of our State in believing in the programs and policies of the Government and giving a decisive mandate in the recent elections, reposing faith and confidence on us.This encourages us in our continued efforts to work for the overall well being of each and every Arunachalee.

It is the duty of the Government to ensure a peaceful atmosphere through effective law and order management while at the same time, taking the goals of development to all sections of the society. I am confident and optimistic that with the measures taken for improvement of law and order scenario we shall soon regain the glory as the Island of Peace.

It is our firm belief that holistic development can be a reality only within an equitable and inclusive framework where benefits of growth reach to all sections of the populace. My government, therefore accords highest priority to social sectors like Education and Health while special emphasis is laid on agri-allied sectors, particularly on tea and rubber cultivation, youths and sports and our nascent but growing industries. At the same time we shall also ensure to provide transparent, accountable and responsive governance by making the Lok Ayukta functional from this year.

Besides emphasizing on infrastructural development, my government is paying special attention to Tourism and Border management. Various welfare measures have been introduced for the people living in border areas.

We have also given due importance to empowerment of women and gender budgeting. While 1.4 % of the state's budget has been earmarked for women related programmes, we are establishing a Women's Degree College at Itanagar while encouraging women Self Help Groups under various self-employment generation schemes.  Women Police Station and Nirbhya centers for women in all district headquarters are being established up to instill safety and security among women.

I am happy that within a short span of time we have come a long way. But we have a long way still to go. I promise, with your support and cooperation, this journey of our progress will continue in right earnest.

Let us take a pledge today to stand united against all forces inimical to peace and tranquility of the State and contribute our bit for sustainable development of Arunachal Pradesh. Let us all join hands in our single objective - 'One Mission - One Arunachal'.

JAI HIND

JAI ARUNACHAL
