Guidelines and modalities for implementation of schemes on Tea Cultivation in the state.

There is a high scope of Tea cultivation in the State due to suitable physiographic and favourable agro-climatic conditions. The suitable land with virgin and rich soils leads to high productivity of tea specially organic tea in the State.

Commercial cultivation of tea in the State has been undertaken long back by the enthusiastic growers without any assistance from the State Govt. in the districts of Tirap, Changlang, Longding, Lohit, Lower Dibang Valley, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Subansiri and Papum Pare. Gradually, cultivation spread to other districts also. Tea grown in hilly slopes of Arunachal Pradesh has a distinct characteristics and its quality is comparable to Darjeeling Tea.

At present, there are 42 registered Tea Estates and many numbers of unregistered Small Tea garden, 8 Tea Factories and 7 Bought Leave Tea Factories in the State. Mostly, tea is grown in the areas bordering Assam and most of the growers are influenced by the success stories of Small Tea Growers of Assam.
