Chief Minister Nabam Tuki expressed shock and pain over the unfortunate fire mishap at kerang village

ITANAGAR November 12, 2014:Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed shock and pain over the unfortunate fire mishap that engulfed remote Kerang village under Kaying circle in West Siang district in the wee hours today. The fire that broke out at about 1 am completely gutted down several houses and property. However, so far no report of any human casualty has been reported so far.

Taking stock of the situation from the district administration, the Chief Minister directed the concerned department to immediately provide relief to the victims as per relief norms. He also sought a detailed report on the unfortunate incident.

According to official sources, Anchal Samiti Member (ASM) of the area has reported that at least 56 households have been affected in the incident. As immediate relief assistance to the victims, the West Siang Disaster Management department has provided an amount of Rs 4000 each to the victim households. The detail assessment of damage done and lose caused is still awaited.

While assuring the victims of assistance from the government as per norms, Tuki expressed grave concern over repeated fire mishaps reported from various parts of the state. He appealed people to observe extreme caution and practice precautionary measures to avoid fire mishaps.

"With the onset of winter, use of fire for household purposes will increase. It is the peak time to observe extreme precautionary measures, especially in interior villages, which are prone to fire accidents and unreachable by fire services," Tuki said in a statement this morning.

He called upon the district administrations, concerned departments, panchayat leaders, civil society and student organizations to create awareness on fire mishaps amongst the rural folks.

"Fire mishaps are man-made and hence can be avoided if we practice preventive measures," he added.
